Some non-sketchbook work

March 31, 2008

I just got a proper scan of this today. Chalk pastel & ink:

And here’s a box I made last year. I’m submitting it to the school’s BFA Art Show. It’s a juried show, so we’ll see. Hopefully it’ll get in:

And here’s a gouache painting that I finished last night. It’s of my bar-fly roommate, Corie, and the pool table is a nod to Vincent van Gogh.

Here’s a really screwy drawing of Ryan Alexander-Tanner:

A Day in the Life of Miss Maggs

It was snowing the other day, so I hung around the house in my jammies and followed my dog around for several hours, drawing her in her different napping locations and positions.

Behold!

And my personal favorite:

I did a #25 but it’s a mechanical pencil drawing and it scanned in really lightly so you can hardly see it when viewed at a blog-friendly size. Not worth it. Anyway to make up for it, here’s a quick little self portrait I did the other day:

Here’s #26, based on a photo I found in an old, old issue of Sotheby’s:

Here’re the two pieces from #27:

And here’s #28 ~ a quick little drawing of my roommate:

24/365: Dress Up In You + Adele Harms & elephant poo!

March 25, 2008

Ok so here’s my ultra-girly drawing for the day. Lots of lyrics. I started off with the word “Swagger” (one of my favorite words) and then it reminded me of a Sufjan Stevens song, and then the lyrics just started a-comin’. Major props if you know whose songs these are (without Google assistance!).

Also, I bought some blue and yellow pigmented ink today and used it on my drawing from yesterday:

Adele Harms

I’m a little obsessed with that photograph. I can’t get her expression quite right. She’s got real unusual lips. Anyway I just keep on trying:

Adele Harms #2
(The crappy ink is Speedball pigmented black ink. Bleh. The colored stuff is great, though!)

Here she is again, this time drawn on paper made out of elephant shit! Isn’t life great??!?

Big huge spill on this one. And it was my fault this time around. Mother-eff!

Numbah Twunny!

Yesterday I went to the Portland Art Museum to see the Degas/Toulouse-Lautrec/Forain exhibit. Really beautiful.  I tried to do some drawing directly from Degas’ sculptures but it was fairly crowded and people kept gettin’ all up in my space. So when I got home I drew this from the little brochure:
