365 Days, 365 Drawings, and a buttload of Thank Yous

First and foremost I’d like to thank my Mom and Stepdad Dr. Prof PhD not only for allowing me to pursue my life-long dream of being a sardonic and unshowered artist, but also for supporting me in every sense of the word.

Naturally I have to thank my brothers Shem and Davin – especially Davin for commissioning a $500 piece from me. Thanks, man. And Shem, you haven’t commissioned me, but you’ve been my closest friend for many, many years now. The Summer of Roseanne will always be one of my favorite summers, even though we were the saddest bastards on the block. Props to Angela and the Schnoofer, too!

Seamus Heffernan. Oh, Seamus, we started this challenge together and I finished it alone. That’s ok, you’re already too good. Plus I was able to go the rest of the way without having my hand held. Your work never ceases to amaze me and make me terribly jealous, and for that I thank you, because you make me work that much harder. Love you, man.

Kurt Hollomon! You were my very first teacher at PNCA and if it weren’t for you, I’d never have become the sketchbookaholic that I am today. Your absolute love for the sketchbook and your constant enthusiasm for life in general is the single most inspiring thing I’ve encountered in college yet.

Ravina Sniper and Corie Sanford. You have been the most wonderful roommates. You are supportive of my art, receptive to my inane chatter and allow me to sleep wherever I please — be it couch, floor or kitchen table. Most importantly, you are kind to my Maggiemoo. Thank you for everything.

My blog gets a lot of hits from people searching “dress up poo.” I’m not sure how I feel about this. I also don’t know what dress up poo is and I don’t care to find out.

HEY. So I’m having a shindig on Saturday in celebration of my imminent completion of the 365 days/365 drawings challenge! Yesterday I hung most of the pieces around the house:

Patchwork

This is a work in progress, but this is the state it is currently in, and who knows how long it’ll be until I get to work on it again. Probably not until Spring Break (Spring Break woo!). Ravina Schneider (aka Ravina Sniper) and I collaborated on a few of the pieces, and I did all the assembly because I love stabbing myself with a large embroidery needle over and over again, whereas Ravina (the smarter of the two of us) does not.

A classmate pointed out that the piece is shaped like the Pi symbol. Makes sense, considering how much I love Pi.

(yeah yeah. That was silly. I half expected a giant cane to pull me away as I typed in the coding for that pie photo.)

The Blog of Denial

Alright. I’ve been denying it for a few days now but it seems that I can’t lie to myself any longer – yes, folks, it’s true: I’m sick. I’m in a slump, feeling sluggish, and the real give-away, my throat is red and hurts like a bitch when I swallow. Sounds like sick to me. And of course I’m out of apple cider vinegar!

And finally, did you know that hippos can open their mouths a full 180 degrees? Us humans can only open our mouths 45 degrees! And did you know that hippos have 36 teeth, 4 of which are incisors, and those incisors can grow up to 18 inches?! Holy cats!

So, my friend/roommate Ravina and I are working on a collaborative piece. It started as an assignment for my painting class and then my instructor asked if Ravina and I ever collaborated and I said no, and next thing I knew:

We’re working on several small pieces and then I’ll be stitching them together with embroidery thread. I’m excited to see how it turns out!

If you’re wondering about that front elephant’s legs (i.e. how many are there??!) it’s a kind of nod to this optical illusion (I love optical illusions ZÖLLNER RPRSNT!):
