April 26, 2009Here are some fliers I threw together to post around town, so Portlanders, keep an eye out! And non-Portlanders, I’m happy to take long-distance commissions as well. I’m currently taking jobs that I will begin work to on June 1st. ACT NOW!
That’s AceyThompson@gmail.com!

And while we’re talking about pets, I’d like to congratulate my boyfriend on adopting a beautiful Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog/Great Dane mix named Jasper, and Jasper for finding a new, loving home! Yay!!!!

Persnickety Lexicography
April 11, 2009A watercolor of a pit bull who is not Maggie:

So, I have a show up right now (April – May 2009) called “The Kipper Season.” It consists of thirty recent pieces and is hung at The Observatory, a new bar/restaurant in the Montavilla neighborhood of Portland, OR. 8115 SE Stark. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again: The Observatory is a sweet bar with good-ass drinks (try the Hibiscus-Acai Margarita!), good-ass steak, and a super-friendly staff. They play some of my favorite music (i.e. Belle & Sebastian, Neko Case), and they have a Scrabble board! Also, Chelsea makes a terrific whiskey sour.
According to my slang dictionary, “the kipper season” is the time between Christmas and Easter- many of the pieces in the show were made during the kipper season. Also, as an added bonus, a “Kipper” is a person who habitually sleeps. I, for example, am a Kipper. Unfortunately, a kipper is also a person who is “two-faced with no guts!” But that mostly is in reference to the British (yikes!) . . . And finally, as a verb, “to kipper” is to ruin someone’s chances. Being a typically vindictive Scorpio, I do get a certain amount of pleasure out of this last definition. It’s schadenfreuderific!
Here’s a picture of me at my reception, looking (and feeling) like a tipsy hamster.

Dripping with alchemy
April 1, 2009Goddamn I love Polly Jean Harvey:

Here’s a close-up of her face:

And here’s the sister piece, Karen O, dripping with alchemy:

And:

If you want a print of the Karen O or PJ Harvey piece, let me know. I will be adding gold or silver spraypaint to each print for that custom touch.
