So my friends Mark and Paige have invited me to join them in doing a drawing a day for the entirety of this winter (91.25 days). Since I already did a drawing a day for a full year, I’ve decided to give myself a theme this time: Pop Stars! Why pop stars? I don’t know. They’re just so bizarre… I won’t just be drawing present day American pop stars, but pop stars from any era and any country. If there is a particular pop star you think I should draw please tell me! 91 is a big number.

Today, day #1, I have drawn Lady GaGa. I will probably try to draw her again sometime within the next 91 days because I don’t know if I quite captured her here.

This is a dream demon. He sneaks into your room at night, plucks the moon from the sky and, with surgical precision, slices open your head and releases nightmares into your mind.

Well, I don’t typically do political art, but I was given an assignment to make a piece of art in response to war. So, I turned to one of my favorite comedians, George Carlin (R.I.P.), and I found a quote that pretty much sums up my feelings about war. He said:

“To me, war is a lot of prick-waving! OK? Simple thing. That’s all it is. War is a whole lot of men standing out on a field, waving their pricks at one another. Men are insecure about the size of their dicks, and so they have to kill one another over the idea. That’s what all that asshole jock bullshit is all about. That’s what all that adolescent, macho male posturing, and strutting in bars and locker rooms is all about. It’s called DICK FEAR. Men are terrified that their pricks are inadequate and so they have to compete with one another, to feel better about themselves, and since war is the ultimate competition, basically, men are killing each other in order to improve their self-esteem! You don’t have to be a historian or a political scientist to see the Bigger Dick Foreign Policy theory at work. It sounds like this: ‘What, they have bigger dicks? BOMB THEM!’ And of course, the bombs and the rockets and the bullets are all shaped like dicks. It’s a subconscious need to project the penis into other people’s affairs. It’s called ‘FUCKING WITH PEOPLE!’”

*sigh* I wish I had some new work to show you guys but sadly everything is, ugh, In Progress. I should have several new things to show you come Friday, though. 3 new paintings, at least! And hopefully a rad illustration of the quintessential Badass Cyborg… Yes, that is correct: ROBOCOP.  (Word on the street is Darren Aronofsky is bringing back RoboCop in 2010 or ‘11. Not sure how I feel about this yet. I just love the original so much. Hm..) Stay tuned.

Last night was the reception at Brews Brothers. Thank you Darin and Gordon for the food and super-spicy ginger ale, as well as the two live acts and fog machine. Lots of people showed up and said lovely things to me about my work. All in all, a success. I totally forgot to take my camera, though. What a dink.

So the other day I sat down and I figured out how to make t-shirts through RedBubble. It was actually quite easy, just tedious. So far I have 8 designs to offer you. Come Winter Break I will certainly be making more. They are available as unisex tees, unisex v-neck tees, long-sleeved, and girly-cut. And they come in a variety of colors and sizes. Here’s some of what I’ve got so far:

The Brews Brothers invited me to display my work at their cozy little coffeehouse in NE Portland. You should go check it out! Not only is my work there (27 pieces total!) but they have really delicious coffee and tea, and in the evenings they serve beer and wine. They also have tapas and desserts and stuff. But my main concern is the lambic (Belgian raspberry beer!), mmmmm… Anyway my work is scattered throughout the whole place. Here’s a little preview:

This is the first time I’m showing “Self Portrait in the Pickle Aisle” in public, so I’m pretty excited!

The great thing about prints is that they’re inexpensive and they brighten up a room like magic. You get a nice, cheap little frame from IKEA or Target and voila! Or you can do it old-school and just pin the sucker right to the wall.
